Installing a Forum

Post by terrym »

Hi everyone

I now have a reasonably successful personal blog (terrymold.co.uk/serendipity/index.php) thanks to Serendipity. But I would now like to add a Forum to the site.

I am interested in the serendipity_event_forum plugin, but I'm not sure how I should actually install it. Is there a highly skilled Serendipity guru out there somewhere who could either explain the install procedure, or who can point to some suitable documentation?

Thanks very much in advance.

Hi!

Actuallly, the forum plugin is quite old and currently not longer maintained. I'm not sure if it would suit your needs - basically, you just install it, and then open your blog via index.php?serendipity[subpage]=forum and then go/post ahead.

However, if you're planning to run a feature-complete forum, I'd suggest to install something like phpBB. Using serendipity_event_forum, you could actually link to that phpbb installation, ince the plugin offers an interface to it - it will automatically link "comments" of your blog to the forum installation. You might not even needs this at all, if you plan on running the forum independently from your blog. You could install the forum either to terrymold.co.uk/forum, or even within the serendipity/ directory...
