TinyBrowser Plugin - FTP Upload Add-on

Post by akremedy »

Hi all,
Getting back to a post I left about a month ago to see if there was any interest in testing my TinyBrowser plugin (http://board.s9y.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17056) - I've since done some further work. The truth is, this doesn't really impact S9Y directly, but it does make TinyBrowser more functional and that's important in context of the authoring experience within S9Y.

A long-standing complaint of TinyBrowser seems to be the problems that stem from its built-in HTTP/Flash-based uploader throwing permissions errors when uploading across domains (and using the built-in session/security model needed to secure TinyBrowser against direct access from prying eyes).

I finally gave up trying to find a solution within the configuration of TinyBrowser after days wasted and decided on a new approach. So, I build a very basic add-on for TinyBrowser which nicely integrates FTP file transfer functionality along-side all existing features.

I posted an article here, screen shots, etc: http://www.pigslipstick.com/index.php?/ ... dd-on.html

I've not had any interest per my inquiry for testers - understandably, this is sort of a specialty item, and while it can stand-alone, I think the best implementation includes the commitment to, and use of TinyMCE and probably the Lightbox/Thickbox/Greybox S9Y plugin as well. As such, I'm going to go ahead and commit my TinyBrowser-for-S9Y plugin and invite feedback, requests, inquiries, etc as they come. Commitment at this point is pending only a review of the license agreement and/or permission of the original author to bundle TinyBrowser...
------------------------
Well this is interesting - the version (1.41) of TinyBrowser that I've been working with all along is/was freely distributed under GNU GPL. The original author is now selling and licensing the latest release (1.42).

I'm not exactly sure what this means in terms of re-distribution (1.41 version - obviously 1.42 is out of the question).

Maybe this is getting into dangerous territory - I'd be happy for any input on this. Meanwhile, I'll email the author to get his opinion.

Concerning licenses: When I implemented the TinyMCE Editor Plugin, I only released the Plugin itself, what is a kind auf connector between s9y and tinymce. The user has to take care on his own to add the tinymce implementation archive on his blog installation. I only described in the plugin settings, how this is done.

In this way you don't get into lisence conflicts, perhaps this is a way for your plugin, too?

(sorry for my bad English, my coffee level is not high enough at the moment to do it better )
