Automatically submit to Flattr using plugin?

Post by SoWhy »

First of all, nice thing that you made the Flattr-plugin. But somehow I'm not sure I understand it correctly. It does display the button as desired but it does not seem to submit the entry to flattr by itself when saving it (the entry only appears once you click on the button but without the tags).
Is this a bug or a feature?

TIA

Hi!

Flattr is different than the social buttons. You can only flattr things if you've got a flattr account.

"Things" will be created automatically on flattr once anybody "likes" it. And when you are logged in to flattr, you cannot flattr your own things. The submission is done from clients, not from a plugin or server.

Hi Garvin,

just implemented the flattr-Plugin.

Now, if I want to submit any new article to be automatically submitted immediately to flattr - where am I supposed to change the plugin file? Best solution would be to submit any article (even those written before integration of flattr) right upon changing & saving the article once more. It would be suitable to first change the flattr attributes, followed by saving the article and submitting it to flattr.

Yet, not each and every article on the blog should be immediately submittted to flattr just upon integration of the plugin of course. Flooding flattr with my blog database is not a good idea...

Reason is, I noticed myself to browse articles at flattr - before even knowing the blogs. Plus, there's an additional marketing effect by linking your flattr posts with your Facebook / Twitter posts.

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

Hi!

Flattr does not work like this. They currently have no automatted API to submit things; you can only embedd their button, and if anyone clicks on the link, your "thing" will be submitted to flattr.

So once you enable the plugin, every entry has the flattr button. When you install the plugin "Extended properties/options for entries" you will have an extended area on your entry editing backend where you can disable flattr for certain entries, if you want.

Best regards,
Garvin

hm, I have to say: This do not work to me:

As long as I do not submit a new article to flattr in the flattr dashboard, I have the "error flattr" icon with the "!". And clicking on this, there is no submit to flattr.

flattr itself writes: https://flattr.com/support/integrate
Auto submit things with plugins or API

There are several ways to auto-submit a thing. Here are most of them.
Plugin, extensions and modules

There are several plugins, extensions and modules written for Flattr. If you want to use Flattr a good start is to see if there are a plugin for the system you use. Flattr plugin directory »
Flattr APIs

If you are a developer or are feeling brave you can also use one of our APIs. Read more about the available Flattr APIs »
BTW, hello again and happy new year!

Hi!

Hm, many blogs (includnig my own) simply show the button and it properly works, without submitting the "thing" to flattr first.

Maybe you are logged in to flattr, which is why you cannot flattr your own item...

(happy new year, too!)

When you save and publish your article: Do you see something related to flattr like we see a notification about tried trackbacks, pushing the sitemap to google and so on?

Because I do not see such a thing for flattr to me.

And I tried to watch my articles with another browser where I am not logged in flattr, same error.

But IIRC there was a time, it worked well!?
One little thing: In the past I had a nummeric flattr id in the plugin, but I do not find this in my flattr dashboard, so I changed it to my to my flattr login id which is shown in dashboard, too.

One test: http://blog.stephan.manske-net.de/archi ... -test.html

Do you see there a normal flattr icon or an error? Can you click on the icon?

And I have a second problem - even if I submit my articles manually:

http://blog.stephan.manske-net.de/archi ... chnee.html

I have submit it manually. Have a look at the url, you will see the normal flattr icon.

But coming from the main site via "read more" you get url http://blog.stephan.manske-net.de/archi ... l#extended (same file but with #extended):

flattr seems not no know this one, I get the error icon! (tried this on your blog, all is fine!?)

No, because such a thing does not exist!

You simply click on the flattr button of your blog entry. This automatically submits your "thing" to flattr...

Aah. I see it in your testentry. have a look at your sourcecode and you'll see as well. Something is translating your quotes so that javascript does not work. :)

You might need to move your flattr plugin after the markup plugin that does this.

argh, the old order issue! :o

Put it now at the bottom of the list, there is a change in behaviour: no error anymore. But something still weird:

http://blog.stephan.manske-net.de/archi ... est-2.html

Click onto the "0" - nothing happened

http://blog.stephan.manske-net.de/archi ... hoert.html

this is an article I submit manually before:

Click onto the "0" - you come to http://flattr.com/thing/113568/Lesetip- ... ert-gehort in a popup.

Is this normal?

Hi!

I just flattrd that article; however, when I clicked the button suddenly "tag flattr=" appeared in place of it. Seems like an error of the javascript by flattr...but it has been flattrd nevertheless?!
