I need a voting plugin, will pay

Post by carl_galloway »

Hi all,

I need a voting plugin for Serendipity similar to the wordpress plugin which can be found on this page

I do not want the plugin to count number of page views like karma does, the vote must be a deliberate act by the reader. And I need the ability to show the vote count in the entry footer. It must work with images as well. If anyone can produce this for me I'm happy to pay a reasonable amount for our efforts, and you can make the plugin available from spartacus for other users. Let me know if you can do it, how long it will take, and how much moola you need. I'll pay using paypal.

Hi!

I throw in a couple of dollars as well, if someone adds this functionality to the existing karma plugin.

Sadly no. Only if you can wait to January/February, when I'm finished with the book. :)

No, I need it fairly quickly. A part of me says just use wordpress, but then the other part of me says, yeah, and then you'll be stuck with a system that doesn't handle apache mod-rewrite as well as s9y and then I'll regret having it and probably just sell the site. Ughhh!

Anyway, nice of you to offer to contribute some cash as well. Here's hoping someone good plugin skills like Jude or Matt read this soon.

Thanks Rob, not voting on images, although this would be a cool addition to the gallery plugin.

What I want is some way of voting for an entry (which might contain an image) but using images ie 1 star, 2 star, 3 star, 4 star etc. There is another WP plugin called post-star-rating which also looks good, I think it uses javascript, but that's kinda what I want. I don't like using WP so a Serendipity version would be awesome.

Hi Carl.

I'm not realy sure, in what's the point. Karma already has a voting, so what is the difference to be implemented? The stars? Voting from 0-5 instead of from - to ++?

I think that replacing the -- and ++ in the karma plugin with stars would make it much more user friendly. People are much more likely to vote with a little user friendly image over a hunk of text.

Me too. But in response to an earlier comment, the existing Karma plugin has negative numbers and positive numbers and a zero rating. This is NOT what I want. I only want positives, 1-5 but also with half pointsjust like the WP plugin. There is another WP plugin that also does the same thing, http://blog.abusemagazine.com/index.php ... ar-rating/ which I like.

Maybe once a plugin like this has images, then we can come up with replacements too, much like we now frequently change the xml icon.

I would also like to see a simultaneous upgrade to the "popular posts" plugin that factors in a combination of entry hits, rating, and comments, possibly with admin ability to define the "weight" each of these components has on the calculation of popularity.

Hi there,

I'm actually working on a modification of the karma plugin, because I need a rating plugin too. My graphical skills are not very good (as my programming skills are ;-) ) but I think, I'm nearly done.

The modification will show diamonds instead of text. The score is from 1 to 5 (half points may be implemented) and interactive over dom scripting. Because of that (one id for each diamond) you can only vote when a single entry is shown but e.g. not on the frontpage.
