Hi!

Yes, this is a "default" behaviour of Serendipity. When a value is cleared/removed, the API will fill in the default setting.

So actually your workaround of a space is actually the best way. Otherwise, plugins are supposed to use checkboxes/toggles to indicate things like "Use Searchengine Link? YES/NO"...

IS there a possibility to change the 'default' setting?

Yes, did you read my response? :)
