Changing Configuration gives "forbidden"
When I log in to my blog to administer it, I can change some things, e.g. plugins, but
if I go to Configuration I cannot save any changes. Pressin Check and Save gives a screen
saying "forbidden".
Possibly a permissions problem?

Is that message not a little bit more verbose?

Re: Changing Configuration gives "forbidden"
No, that's all it says.
I don't think the first link is relevant. It was actually while trying to do what it says in the second link that I found the error.

So, then try to (re-set) the required permissions:
http://www.s9y.org/11.html#A15
Which S9y Version are you processing?
Also have a look into the source code of that errored page which only says this word. Sometimes the error message is caught in some html tag which can not display directly to eyes.

Re: Changing Configuration gives "forbidden"
Not sure which version this is, but probably 1.6.
Permissions seem to be OK - I certainly haven't changed them.
The source for the page doesn't show anything except "forbidden"
I don't know if upgrading to 1.7 would fix it (or break things).

How shall I know then...?accampbell wrote:I don't know if upgrading to 1.7 would fix it (or break things).
Anyway, upgrading will always fix some things. Easiest method by now:
Set autodetect host name to yes,
install the dashboard plugin,
then the Serendipity Autoupdate plugin,
point yourself to backend startpage
and off you go!

Sorry, I'm lost here. Where is "autodetect host name"?Timbalu wrote:How shall I know then...?accampbell wrote:I don't know if upgrading to 1.7 would fix it (or break things).

And I can't find these plugins to install. Perhaps they don't work
on this version?

Backend/Configuration → Path → HTTP host autodetect: to Yesaccampbell wrote:Sorry, I'm lost here. Where is "autodetect host name"?

Then in Plugin List:
Install Spartacus Plugin: This is for automated Plugin updates
If this is installed in event Plugins, search for ... (see above).
Before you upgrade your Serendipity by "Dashboard / Serendipity Autoupdate" also run a check for new event Plugins LINK in Plugin List on top (two buttons with a slight pink button), to check for new updated Plugins, which is recommended to have done, before running the 1.7 upgrade. This will show you, which Plugins need an update to run (they also have this "pink" button, which is a one-click Option to update this plugin). Re-run this procedure as long as you can find upgradable plugins.
Then you can follow the principles I have stated before.
You might also need to have a look to the permissions on your server, as described in the FAQ.
Good luck.

Re: Changing Configuration gives "forbidden"
Not sure what you mean by backend/configuration. If you mean the configuration window which comes up when I log in as administrator, changing stuff there is just what I can't do.
And I have Spartacus but it doesn't produce any Event plugins. It tells me that I need to have version 7.1 for this, so I suppose I must just upgrade in the old-fashioned way at this point.

To the first:
That is odd! Ask you ISP if they have changed something (permissions, path, db, new server modules etc.) which can point to this sort of error.
To the second:
I really can't imagine Spartacus is telling you it needs 1.7 to do so. (If that still is your situation, don't hesitate to go the old fashioned way). This odd backend issue needs to be solved anyhow, So ISP questionaire and upgrade are the prefered way to proceed!

Re: Changing Configuration gives "forbidden"
Perhaps it wasn;t saying it needs 1.7 - I think I misread it. But something is wrong.
When I try to update Event plugins I see:
Trying to open URL package_event_en.xml...
Fetched 462994 bytes from already existing file on your server. Saving file as /data01/c4909627/public_html/serendipity/templates_c/package_event_en.xml...
If I click on the "Trying to open ..." link I get:
XML Parsing Error: prefix not bound to a namespace
Location: http://netmirror.org/mirror/serendipity ... ent_en.xml
Line Number 14, Column 3: <requirements:s9yVersion>0.7</requirements:s9yVersion>--^
Anyway, I'll try an upgrade later and also see about the permissions, as you suggest.

Re: Changing Configuration gives "forbidden"
This is nothing which is intended to do by Serendipity Users, I assume. I even don't remember it was presented as a clickable link... Edit: Yes it is a clickable link, still not intended to use in normal user situations though, and with S9y 1.7, you can click it and will get the full xml file presented on a new page. This should not error!accampbell wrote:If I click on the "Trying to open ..." link
The first message tells you about fetching the automated "Server to Mirror-Server" sync xml file into templates_c. As quoted, you have recieved this file, without problems.
This file will later be read by Spartacus internally, to know which Plugins are upgradable or not, when you click the pink on top buttons.

Yes, correct - I've got them now. Thanks.
I'll try out this stuff and report back later.

Re: Changing Configuration gives "forbidden"
The upgrade went off smoothly and quickly with your plugin - many thanks.
Permissions were recorded as correct in the process.
The Forbidden error still appears. I'm wondering if it has to do with the PHP issue. I'll check with my ISP to see what they are using.

Re: Changing Configuration gives "forbidden"
Fine!
You have some PHP 5.3.18 Version which is definitely fine!
As I said, ask them about Server config changes, new modules etc and describe your error.
