Comments go to SMF forum

Post by hdiaz36 »

Ok, I'm not sure if this is possible or how easy/difficult it would be to implement.

When I post an entry to my blog I'd like the subsequent user comments to be posted to an SMF forum. So if someone wishes to make or view the comments that user can click "comments" only to be redirected to some thread on an SMF forum.

Ideally I'd like everything to be completely automated. Therefore a new thread will be created in SMF once the blog entry is made. I can settle for the comment redirection and me manually creating the SMF threads though.

Does anyone have some ideas how to achieve this? Is it too complex, or...?

I can provide more details if necessary. Thanks for this great software though, I love serendipity! :)

Hi!

A plugin for this exists inside the serendipity_event_forum plugin, where you jcan mirror commnents to a phpBB bboard.

With knowledge of SMF an PHP you would surely be able to modify the plugin to do the same to SMF! :)

Thanks for your reply.

I took a look at the plugin you mentioned. I have not tested it, but based on the description I do not think it will actually achieve what I want. I'm assuming that this will simply produce duplicate comments in a forum. I just want the "comments" link to take me to a specific thread on a forum.

I guess the ugly way of achieving this would be to disable comments, start a new topic in the forum for each blog entry and include a link in each blog entry to that specific thread.

Haha, but that seems so... lame, so I'm hoping to come up with a better solution.

If anyone somehow thinks they could accomplish what I have in mind I'd be willing to pay. Any interested parties, please use this thread to communicate with me. Thanks!

It actually stores and retrieves comments inside the forum rather than inside s9y, and it can (also) link to the comments of the forum...

Oh wow, now I'm getting quite excited since it seems that it will do exactly what I require, but only with phpbb and not with SMF.

It's really too bad I don't have much knowledge of either php or SMF though.

I'll probably try to contact the author of the plugin to see if he/she is willing or able to work out something for SMF.

Anyone else reading this, my offer still stands. So if you believe you can get this to work with SMF feel free to contact me with an offer!
