[1.7][2.0] 2k11 – standard, default or what else?

Mark threads with "[2.0]" for discussions about features in the longer-term future, "[1.6]" is for short-term. This is not the place for general discussions or plugin or template requests. Only features that are approved to happen by the core team should be listed here for better structuring.

We could do that as well. That way, I would develop 2k11 in 2.0 (i.e. implement and test new features, if any should come up) and have a stable version in master (which would only get necessary updates). Fine by me.

Even though I fully trust that 2k11 is ready for primetime I think it might raise support issues and other trivial problems that could divert our attention...
Happy Christmas to all of you!

What kind of problems do you have in mind, Garvin? Well, apart from the need to take over the bulletproof/admin backend (else it would fall back to old default/admin), it has nearly no influence to break something, IMHO. If someone has stuck with bulletproof as the default template in the past, that would not change if 1.7 arrives with a new defaultTemplate set, would it? That would only happen to new installations, or am I wrong with that?
I expect changing 1.7 to 2k11 now as a good idea, since the Smarty3 upgrade has influences to the frontend also, while draft 2.0 modifications are backend only as of now. "Raising support issues and other trivial problems" is daily business in my eyes.
And... to come up in 2013/14 with a new template from 2011, is quite "debianesque". ;-)

Ian

JFTR: Standard template, not default (as in fallback). Serendipity v2.3 would remain the default template.

To clearify that again... ;-) Thank you! I was talking about serendipity_config.inc.php which has the $serendipity['defaultTemplate'] = 'bulletproof'; variable, which is the old setting since "I don't know"! This would change to 2k11 and apply (only?) to new installations without any preset Template. (?) The backend would then to move from Bulletproof to the new one, as the backend in fallback templates/default/admin is even older.

Ian

At some point, we should really discuss whether the current template mechanism is still a good idea. I realize it's always going to be a matter of backwards compatibility, but I'm not sure the whole “fall back to BP, then fall back to v2.3” is still appropriate for the modern web.

I just promoted 2k11 to be the new default-template: https://github.com/s9y/Serendipity/comm ... cda6175b03

In the current state, default still remains as fallback.

I hope that his change will make it easier for all of us to test 2k11 in the backend, and will also enable us to test the installer with 2k11 as template as early as possible.
