Interesting. It does indeed work – although I have to say not having the HTML attributes is still a bummer –, but of course I only did a quick test. Might still be that this has some kind of weird side effect, maybe in older or mobile browsers.

Then again, if someone really cares about responsive images, they're going to want to use adaptive images or something like that anyway …
