Unable tolog in as admin after fresh install

Post by dktucson »

Hello,
I have a mixed bag of success in using serendipity. A few weeks ago for kicks & grins I installed aurora linux on an old sparcstation and configured an older version of serendipity that was compatible with the older php. It's working fine
Now i installed it on a little Raspberry pi mini pc using the latest lite version..it loads, but conks out logging in as admin to create a post or administer the blog--saying my username & password are not correct.
I have drilled into the file serendipity_config_local-inc.php and it's all correct as i had set it--I have yanked the files--recopied to the /var/www folder--reset folder permissions and tried a new mysqldatabase of "serendipity2" to no avail...ThePi is running debian squeeze and it has a site up at http://dktucson.dyndns.info:86 It also runs an IRC chat server with a flash/ajax client embedded.
the blogpage loads up--but no admin control panel access

i figured it out..something was tanked in mysql..same behaviour using Chyrp..I purged mysql--reinstalled and reconfigured admin logins/database creation & privileges.."now we're cooking with gas" and all is well.

Hi dktucson
Thanks for outlining your solution. It's always good to see people tinkering with the Raspberry pi and s9y. Good luck!

Well, similar problem here. That's why I was looking for installation problems. It's not my first serendipity install, but AFAICR the first, where I locked myself out. (Not on a raspberry pi but on a hosted webspace.)

//update: It worked the second time. (I dropped all tables, deleted serendipity_config_local.inc.php and did the install once more. No idea, I used a stupidly easy password, where I can't make a typo, but maybe I still could ;)

Now I'he locked myself out again ;)

Last thing I did was change in the config "URL rewriting" from disabled to "Use Apache mod_rewrite". Apparantly the server doesn't like this and now I can't access neither blog nor admin. (403). I have looked in the serenditipy_config table but found no obvious entry so far. What do I have to search for and how can I return it to disabled?

//edit ps: Or is this saved in the .htaccess file?

Hi!

Yes; edit .htaccess to remove Rewrite-related settings (you can use "#" to comment), and then you can turn of URL rewriting again once you get into the admin again :)

Thanks a lot. I am always amazed how fast I get help in this forum.

Now I have to ask my hoster about mod_rewrite.

//And one more question: What is the difference between "Use Apache mod_rewrite" and "Use Apache mod_rewrite for 1&1 and problematic servers"?

I add a question that is not related to a new install, but to a migration:

The FAQ says:

>>
Now edit the serendipity_config_local.inc.php file, you might need to insert the new DB user account data into that file. You also might need to edit your .htaccess file to set the new paths properly.

The serendipity_config_local.inc.php file created by the installer on my new webspace is set to 700. I can't download it with ftp and I can't change settings as my ftp-user is not the owner. Any solution to this?

//edit ps: I think, I have found the solution http://www.s9y.org/11.html#A20 ;)

Hi!

The 1&1 rewrite options add a specific instruction to .htaccess; but it will not fix your issue if mod_rewrite doesn't work at all for you.

The rest you seem to have uncovered already :)

Thanks! The redirect problem was solved by my hoster. Now it works and I can go on testing before I migrate my 3000 + articles blog.

There is still an issue with creation of thumbnails. Doesn't work when "Use ImageMagic" is set to YES but does work when ImageMagic is set to NO. I checked the path to /usr/bin/convert with my hoster but there might be an issue with the webspace being installed in chroot.
