Error message after restore

Post by Zirbelholz »

Hi,

After upgrading from 1.2 to 1.5.5, I was unable to log into my weblog. I attempted to upload a fixlogin.php, but got an error message.

Consequently I asked my provider to restore the whole weblog (transblawg.eu) to the status on April 4th.

I now cannot call up the weblog at all but get the following error message:

++Warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "404.tpl" in /kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity/bundled-libs/Smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1095++

What can I do to remove this problem before updating again? I did make a backup to my computer and a database dump before upgrading. So can I replace 404.tpl or remove it? I would be very grateful for help.

On another thread, I asked for advice on how to avoid the next upgrade failing, e.g. was it right to use my full name both as real name and username? can I use a new password and do I have to change it online immediately after successfully accessing the upgraded blog?

TIA

Hi!

Re-Upload all files frmo the serendipity 1.5.5 download archive to your webspace. Overwrite all files that your FTP client asks you to overwrite. Make sure your FTP client does not report any error messages.

After that, go to your serendipity backend. Check if at the bottom if it says "serendipity 1.5.5" or "serendipity 1.2".

As long as it says "1.2", your s9y is NOT updated.

Garvin

The s9y admin area. The part of s9y which you have to login to. Where you do anything you do in s9y. :)

Margret, you are still on Powered by Serendipity 1.2 and PHP 5.2.13 !!!
Just follow these simple steps:

1. Upload the full 1.5.5 release again via ftp binary mode.
2. Be sure to have the .htaccess and serendipity_config_local.inc.php chmoded with 757 or 777.
3. Now open you blog via browser
4. It tells you an upgrade is available - press ok - and the update should run through
5. Login to the admin panel - check integrity again, to be sure all files of this version are there
6. Admin panel = Backend
7. have fun!

Ian

Thanks. I have uploaded the serendipity 1.5.5. folder (unzipped) but I don't know where it's gone. Yesterday it went into Uploads and I had to do something to overwrite the rest.

I find at a higher level a serendipity OLD folder and a serendipity folder. Nothing is dated 2011, most 2007. I think I need to upload all the individual files to the serendipity folder. (I swear this worked yesterday!)

Thanks, Ian. You are right, I even wrote down 'binary' last night and had forgotten. I will upload binary when this current upload is over.

This is one of you problems...
Serendipity original lives in /kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity
It is ok if folders have old dates, this does not mean its items are old.
Uploading serendipity via Backend uploads is not the way you should go!
Do you use ftp to upload the new release? What else?
Just open the zip at home - unzip all files to a folder - open the serendipity/ folder and upload all files and folders in it to the directory above.

Ian

Oh and I forgot to say....

If you find a folder named serendipity in /kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity like
/kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity/serendipity, or somwhere else inside...., please kill the last one with all its items.

Ian

I unzipped them all on my computer. I uploaded the *directory* with the unzipped files into the serendipity directory online - that was my mistake.
I realize the OLD folder is not necessarily relevant, I was just mentioning it.
I don't understand what you mean by 'Backend uploads'. I have just gathered that backend is the place where I enter my weblog's administration, which I can't do if my password can't work.
I don't know what else there is except ftp.

Thanks re deleting false upload - am still trying to find out how Cyberduck does binary.

/kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity/uploads/serendipity
Margret please kill the marked serendipty folder with all items in uploads!
You have moved a previous installation upload to /uploads/, which is a directory of serendipity to maintain in your admin backend panel to upload pictures and so on to your blog. THIS IS NOT AN INSTALLATION FOLDER. ;-)

I did read one of those before I last posted - I googled it. Do you think it tells me anything I need to know? Please let me know what information it has other than that I don't need to set binary? - should I be using another program?

I thought I'd posted this, but maybe it was too soon. This is the current error message:

++/kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity/uploads/serendipity/ Not writable
/kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity/uploads/serendipity/templates_c Not writable++

Neither of those directories exists. I know they look like the remains of futile uploads, but they just aren't there, so I can't change their permissions.

Has anyone any idea what I can do now?

Thats what you say! ;-)

I say, I am quite sure that
/kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity
is the folder where your blog used to live. This folder needs the upgrade of all folders and files you find under the unzipped home/serendipity/ folder!

The error message you see by now in your blog is there because you uploaded a second installation to
/kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity/uploads/serendipity, which is bad. The installer gets really confused having 2 serendipity installations inside each other. To reconfigure everything to a simple upgrade you need to kill the second one!

Yes, the first one is telling you, that the newest version does binary mode automatically and there is not a switch or button to force it anymore. Just set it to auto.
The second one tells you about bugs in older versions.
Neither of those directories exists. I know they look like the remains of futile uploads, but they just aren't there, so I can't change their permissions.
I can't really believe that!
If you have looked this up again and swear to be sure..... ,
we might have to go the hard way.

Save the /kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity/serendipity_config_local.inc.php and all items in /kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity/uploads and your template folder
/kunden/187871_90762/webseiten/serendipity/templates/xxxxx. If there are other files which dont come with a virgin installation keep them too.

Then erase everything underneath /webseiten/ and restart uploading
re-copy the saves files and folders and proceed with the upgrade process.

If this is to wild we could have a look to your mysql table first to be sure there arent any values which say there are files and folders, which do not exist in reality!

Tell me before you want to go the hard or database way.
Regards,
Ian
