Garvin,
Just can't leave a job undone, can you?
I'll be switching to your solution just as soon as you get it out of the nursery. It will be nice to have a consistent browsing experience whether logged in under security, or not logged in.

Re: Newbie: serendipity_event_entrypaging Third placement option
Garvin, I worked up a solution, though it probably only works for me. It works for me because: 1. I only show the top-most level of categories, and reserve the next level down for security categories. 2. I don't need to page through single entries when I'm logged in (i.e., it is only going to be for...

Re: Newbie: serendipity_event_entrypaging Third placement option
Garvin, Cool. Hoping you get inspired :) For now, I'm wondering if there are workarounds I can use. 1. Are there other values I can access through the $pagination_(next|prev|random)_ variables? 2. If I can get the first category of _prev, or _next perhaps I can do something to skip over it if it has...

Newbie: serendipity_event_entrypaging Third placement option
Hi, Post-POST-script -- Well, I got it all working (see below) but now have a bu(er...)Feature report. The "prev/next" pagination currently doesn't skip over entries for which the user has no access. That is: It produces a next or previous link to an entry that is not accessible by the use...

Re: Newbie: SQL Caching ?
Garvin, Thanks. Not applicable. I don't have the extended option for entries plugin installed. It seems to be okay these days (occasionally it still slows down when going to an individual entry from the index page, but it is anybody's guess where that delay is being introduced). The cache probably w...

Re: Raw HTML in RSS feeds
Thanks Garvin,
I'll simply include an anchor out to the video site in my posts along with videos, in order to accommodate vigilant feed-reader applications.

Re: Raw HTML in RSS feeds
Garvin, Thanks for your help in at least understanding what's going on. Re: "What's your RSS feed address" Here's my 2.0 RSS link: http://standoutpublishing.com/Blog/index.php?/feeds/index.rss2 (drop back to blog for the front page that includes videos) If you simply view it in a firefox b...

Re: Newbie: SQL Caching ?
Thanks Garvin.
I'm using the category-based privileges, but the other one: "extended database lookups" might be fine to shut off... If I could find it.
Where might that one be?

Re: Raw HTML in RSS feeds
Garvin, re: "HTML needs to be encoded inside RSS feeds, so that is actually allright!" Yeah, I get that, but being encoded, it is no longer pulled in by the reading application. In this case the reading application is facebook, but even firefox just displays a big nothing there where the y...

Raw HTML in RSS feeds
Hi, I seem to be having trouble getting raw html (such as embedded youtube videos) to show up in the RSS feed. Viewing the page source at the feed shows that the html is there, but that it has had its brackets and such converted into entities. Is there any advice you can share for making this work? ...

Re: Newbie: SQL Caching ?
Garvin, That's strange. I just downloaded and installed this a couple of months ago from scratch... I was just using the "powered by" message at the bottom of the page (template?) to answer your question. Could it be wrong? I'll go dig deeper... Ok, the one on the admin screens says: "...

Re: Newbie: SQL Caching ?
Hi Garvin. Thanks for responding. The version is 1.0 The help-desk did escalate and I was informed that there were some problems with the DB server's configs. These seem to have been taken care of. There are still occasional slow renders, but i am starting to think that these few remaining issues ha...

Newbie: SQL Caching ?
Hi, There seems to be a problem with my hosting** service's SQL server policies. I've been having trouble with delayed responses from blog pages. They are sometimes snappy, but at other times they can take (on average) 20-50 seconds. Sometimes it's even worse (I counted a few up in the 90s, and two ...

Re: newbie: Trackback e-mail, but trackbacks 0 at blog
Thanks Garvin, it helps a lot.
The solution was much more embarrassing than this. I was looking at the "entries" for evidence of pending trackbacks. After reading your message it was clear that I should have been looking at the "comments".

newbie: Trackback e-mail, but trackbacks 0 at blog
Hi, This may be perfectly normal. I get an e-mail that says a trackback has been added to a blog entry, but when I go to the entry it shows 0 trackbacks. In each case, the e-mail is clearly spam that has nothing really to do with the subject of the entry. I'm guessing that this could be because: 1. ...
