The problem might be my htaccess file. My host won't let me set permissions to anything above 666 on it. So maybe if I could just see what the htaccess needs to look like for 9.1, that would solve the problem. What I have, left over from the old version, is: RewriteEngine On Options +FollowSymLinks ...

Well, my blog is in the main folder (public_html), so I guess "/" would be the relative URL, unless I'm not understanding you (which is very possible). And that's what is already in there, that's not working.

Categories sort of missing

I just upgraded to 9.1, and had some problems, but seemed to get everything straightened out in the end. But today, when I went in to post an entry, the admin interface is showing I have no categories. They're also missing from the sidebar on the actual blog. And yet the appropriate categories show ...

I upgraded from a nightly version of 9 to the stable 9.1 and was getting the same error message as the original poster. I tried several things recommended in the FAQ - no luck. Then I decided to try random changes to my blog configuration, and immediately stumbled on the solution: I just had to turn...

I found a solution for this after a LOT of trial and error and searching online. It's almost embarrassingly simple. And it works not just between Serendipity and other apps... almost any two php scripts, one in a subfolder under the other, can have clashing rewrite rules. My serendipity blog is in t...

Thank you, Garvin! I'm not angry - just frustrated. I'm sorry if I sounded upset with you - I know you guys work hard on this program. I'm only switching on the one blog - I'm definitely keeping Serendipity on the BlueMushrooms. And it wasn't just because of this on Hathor - I think the original hos...

I didn't change the URL rewrite option from what it's been for months, which has been working fine. I only changed the permalink structure. (Which I did at the same time in my WordPress blogs, with no issues whatsoever.) Garvin, if you're reading this, please concentrate your efforts on helping me r...

I can't even figure out if it's safe to do a totally clean install, because I'd have to use 8.0.4 to do it, right? The problem is, I was running a nightly of 9.0.4, and I'm afraid that means the database will be tweaked and re-tweaked if I start with 8 then upgrade to 4, and I might lose goodness kn...

That's not it, I'm afraid. The two blogs have been running just fine on their separate hosts for months now. Unfortunately, in the config panel, when I was making changes to the permalink structure, I must have made one change too many. I was trying to simplify the permalink structure. The first few...

HELP! Config change knocks entire SITE offline

I was making some config changes at http://thehathorlegacy.info about permalink paths. I think something must have rewritten my htaccess stuff in a bad, bad way because not only is that site offline - all my other sites on the same hosting account are offline! I tried to install the newest version o...

I found the fix for this. 755 is not appropriate! Your directory must be 777 to be writable for Serendipity. The extra "/" can be ignored. Regards, Garvin I put my blogs in the main folder (public_html) and I've always used 775 without a hitch, because 777 on the main folder would be a sec...

I uninstalled FCK after I saw your post that Xinha had fewer bugs. :) Now, I just updated the Xinha, and it removed 2 of the 6 errors I'm getting. Now, it loads the index page, then gives me 4 error boxes. But after that, it works, as far as I can tell. (As long as there's nothing strange being save...

its funny that all 3 wysiwyg editors are giving you problems. I didn't try TinyMCE. So it's actually FCK and Xinha giving me roughly the same error. Xinha actually works - it just gives me 6 error messages and loads my main page in the box before letting me start typing in the box. FCK does...

Xinha also puts my index page in the box... at first. Then it gives me 6 error boxes that say "an error has occurred" which I then have to click "ok". Once all THAT is done, it seems to work. But then when I tried to see a preview of my new entry, it tacked on every comment that'...

Er, FCK is showing my main page inside the box where I should be typing.

I remember it did this with Drupal when I installed it there. Can't remember what the fix was, though.
