Re: Spam protection in s9y – issues and thoughts

Probably "or whatever" ;) I did't change anything after my question here, but after some hours I could comment again.

Re: Spam protection in s9y – issues and thoughts

I hope my question fits into this thread: due to recent waves of havy commentspam in my blog I had to start using more rigid rules. Now I can't comment any more myself ;) and I haven't found, why. The logfile says: "REJECTED: Sie haben das Feld "%s" nicht ausgefüllt!" but I have ...

skipping updates?

When update 1.7.4 appeared, I postponed upgrading to the weekend ;) Now I looked again and saw that there were several updates in the meantime. Question: is it save to upgrade from 1.7.3 directly to 1.7.8 or should I apply one update after the other?

Re: 1.6->1.7: blogurl missing

just to add to the confusion: my blog is running 1.7 (at least it says so), the "URL to blog" field is empty in the admin-interface and in the db I find only baseURL (no defaultBaseURL). I have selected "Autodedect used HTTP-Host: Yes" mysql> select name, value from sy_config WHE...

Re: [Spam protector] too long lines created in .htaccess fil

But fail2ban would be much better and faster as using iptables... (there was a blog article by Kris Köhntopp, but this blog was sadly closed down). fortunately it is still in the web-archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20100104104014/http://blog.koehntopp.de/archives/2619-fail2ban-fuer-S9Y-Spam-Tra...

Re: 1.6->1.7: blogurl missing

I started reading this thread only after the update 1.6 to 1.7 and I can confirm that the "URL to Blog" field in http://www.example.com/serendipity_admin.php?serendipity[adminModule]=configuration is empty. But up to now I haven't seen any negative consequences. If one of you wants to exam...

Re: no auto-logout in freshly installed s9y

I never chose "remember me". But I will try again with a different browser.

After which time should I normally be logged out? (I only know that it is sometimes too short to finish an article ... but that's not very exact.)

no auto-logout in freshly installed s9y

Hi. I have a freshly installed s9y for testing purposes and noticed that my admin-user is never logged out automatically. Which comes quite handy as long as I am testing but should not be like that in my opinion. I have compared the test-install with my long working s9y blog and found no "switc...

added users caught in spamblock bayes

Several people contacted me because they could not register as authors in my blog. I checked and did not find anything in the logfiles, neither apache-log nor spamblock-log and spamblock bayes log (and added them "by hand" if applicable). Now I tried myself and found that everytime I enter...

Re: Unable tolog in as admin after fresh install

Thanks! The redirect problem was solved by my hoster. Now it works and I can go on testing before I migrate my 3000 + articles blog. There is still an issue with creation of thumbnails. Doesn't work when "Use ImageMagic" is set to YES but does work when ImageMagic is set to NO. I checked t...

Re: Unable tolog in as admin after fresh install

I add a question that is not related to a new install, but to a migration: The FAQ says: >> Now edit the serendipity_config_local.inc.php file, you might need to insert the new DB user account data into that file. You also might need to edit your .htaccess file to set the new paths properly. << http...

Re: Unable tolog in as admin after fresh install

Thanks a lot. I am always amazed how fast I get help in this forum.

Now I have to ask my hoster about mod_rewrite.

//And one more question: What is the difference between "Use Apache mod_rewrite" and "Use Apache mod_rewrite for 1&1 and problematic servers"?

Re: Unable tolog in as admin after fresh install

Now I'he locked myself out again ;) Last thing I did was change in the config "URL rewriting" from disabled to "Use Apache mod_rewrite". Apparantly the server doesn't like this and now I can't access neither blog nor admin. (403). I have looked in the serenditipy_config table but...

Re: Unable tolog in as admin after fresh install

Well, similar problem here. That's why I was looking for installation problems. It's not my first serendipity install, but AFAICR the first, where I locked myself out. (Not on a raspberry pi but on a hosted webspace.) //update: It worked the second time. (I dropped all tables, deleted serendipity_co...

Thank you! This was the explanation I was looking for (but with the wrong catch-words).
