With some more searching, I figured out how to use phpAdmin to change my user password in the database itself. It's working now, so most likely I wasn't as careful as I thought I was when I typed it in the first time.

I think I figured out the moderation problem! The example entries I had up on that page were months old, so it was past the 30-day limit for un-moderated comments.
