Re: Unable to log in after GoDaddy changed the site's IP

Okay; I think I have made some progress, but I'm still locked out of the Serendipity administration page. At GoDaddy, I was able to change the version of PHP running on my site from 4.x to 5.3. GoDaddy also offers Serendipity 1.6.2 as an application you can install, but it will not let me do that, b...

Re: Unable to log in after GoDaddy changed the site's IP

Okay; so far I've made the index page totally inaccessible. The database is still intact, but I think I've messed up the upgrade of Serendipity and need to reinstall it. To be sure I'm doing this right, I've got the unzipped "serendipity-1.6.2" folder, and inside that is a folder ju...

Unable to log in after GoDaddy changed the site's IP

Hello again! My football website, http://www.afc-north.com, is hosted by GoDaddy, and I have installed Serendipity there to handle blog posts. I've had fun designing my own template for posts, limited only by my paltry knowledge of PHP and Smarty. A few days ago, I received an e-mail from GoDaddy sa...

Re: The Properties/Templates of categories plugin

Okay, thanks. It looks like that wasn't something the software was intended to do. In a similar vein, I was wondering if it's possible to make posts appear differently on the front page based on their category. I can use the plugin to create a different template for a category, but that only affects...

The Properties/Templates of categories plugin

Hi! It's been a couple of years since I posted here, but I've found Serendipity to be really helpful for organizing my football website at http://www.afc-north.com . Recently, I've been trying to see what I can do with the ability to give different categories of posts different templates. I created ...

Well, so far I'm finding it a lot easier and more fun to keep the site updated. No commenters yet, but that's probably because it had been a while since the front page to my site had been updated. Anyway, I have a question about how to handle a specific type of post on my site-- the game post. The i...

Yeah; I think that would be a good idea. My head's full of ideas about how to use the static page feature-- I think this is really going to be fun!

With some more searching, I figured out how to use phpAdmin to change my user password in the database itself. It's working now, so most likely I wasn't as careful as I thought I was when I typed it in the first time.

Thanks-- that solved the problem! I've finally gotten the blog to the point that I'm comfortable making it the index page for my site: www.afc-north.com/index.php Feel free to take a look, and let me know if there's anything glaringly obvious I need to fix. I'm afraid I have created myself another p...

Thanks, Steve. Your suggestion solved part of the problem, but there is still a bit of space there.

I think I figured out the moderation problem! The example entries I had up on that page were months old, so it was past the 30-day limit for un-moderated comments. I made a new entry, and comment posting seems to work fine for that one. Duh! Edited to add: No, that light gray border isn't wha...

How about the entry itself? Is the checkbox marked "Comments & trackbacks to this entry requires moderation"? You can set this default by user, or individually for each entry. I checked both the entry itself and my personal settings, and for both, "Comments & trackbacks to th...

Thanks for your help! I've incorporated both of your suggestions; now the comment count is the only thing displayed at the top of each blog post. I have also continued working on the styles-- now I like how the comments themselves look. A few more questions: -- How can I make the comments display in...

Hi; I'm back again! Thank you for the code suggestion, Don. It works just right; it looks identical to the original version, but now I can change the ticker content by entering it directly into a field on the "Manage Styles" page. http://www.afc-north.com/serendipity/ The organization of m...
