I guess I found a mistake of mine, sorry for the confusion. When I installed the system I adopted the file permissions from my debian etch installation, which gives to templates_c, uploads and archives 735 permissions; the apache user is not allowed to read the directories.

First I downloaded the plugins as .zip-Files, extracted them in the plugins directory and adjusted permissions and ownership as for the original plugins in the directory.

When I select "Configure Plugins" -> "Click here to install" these plugins simply don't show up.

I just installed version 1.1.2. Installation seems to work fine in the first place, but then I find that newly installed plugins don't show up. E.g. I installed the Adsense plugin and the nospam_surbl plugin, but they don't show up in the plugin manager. All I get is the original set of 5 ...
