You were exactly right. PHP errors are not displayed and the memory limit had been set to 12MB, but just a little more was needed because it worked fine set to 13MB. I went a ahead and set it higher though to avoid this problem in the future.
Thanks, Garvin!

Cannot change style/theme after 1.5.2 upgrade
Hi, I just upgraded my blog from Serendipity 1.4 to 1.5.2 and the only problem I see is that when I go to Manage Styles in the admin interface I get a plain while page (no css/images/formatting) with no listing of styles or any way to change the style; only the following text: Theme/Style options Th...

I've noticed the installer script also does not check whether the plugins directory is writable, which makes spartacus unusable since it cannot download plugins. I think it makes sense to check this directory as well at install, so if the user has to fix any permissions, they can do it all at once r...

installer permissions check bug
I noticed when I was installing serendipity recently that the installer told me my permissions all looked good, and then failed when trying to write the config after the next page because it could not write to 'uploads/' I discovered that the permissions were set correctly on the basedir, but not on...

Well, I've actually been wanting to get into serendipity development, and this seemed like a good time to jump into the code. I've had a look at the db structure and the code that makes the entry screen work, but I don't really see an intuitive way of assigning a default category for the group. Addi...

categories and permissions
Hi, I am setting up a multi-user blog where each user has his own category and should be able to post only in his category. I have setup the appropriate users, groups and categories and set their permissions. The problem is that every user can still create uncategorized entries. How can I prevent th...

I think my problem was unrelated. I fixed my php problem so now my captchas appear just like yours, and they work just as well, from Safari or Firefox on my Mac, or from my main desktop pc. I went back to your blog with Safari and posted another comment, this time being very careful about the captch...

I checked some other serendipity-powered blogs and it seems both the single image captcha and variable length captchas are completely normal. Perhaps I mistyped a letter in the short captcha on your blog the first time. In any case, the post was successful the second time, using Safari. I wonder why...
