s9y can exist in a MS FrontPage environment - it is not ideal, and I am slowly weeding FrontPage out of my own s9y site due to the limitations it imposes on my management of my site as well as the awful overhead it's code generates. There is little reason to use FrontPage unless you need some of the...

Having patted myself on the back for a job well done, I discovered that several of my pages simply did not work in MS IE6.... Most of the problems seem to come from what I have read about buggy float and clear issues with IE. By trial and error, I seemed to have resolved them on the page giving me t...

Found my problem with quotes resulting from my Excel concatenation formula! When I originally wrote the formula, I was copying the class info from an example I commented into my static page. That example had code on 2 separate lines like this: </div> <div class="whatever_class"> When I cop...

OK - I found a solution (sort of) for generating a "table" from my Excel worksheet and getting it into a static page. Only one final problem to overcome. I also wanted it to be a little cleaner, so I have been reading up on CSS when I can, and seem to have something working. The first part...

Thanks for the input on the upgrade - need to back everything up, then will give it a shot. Getting the data to a DB isn't a huge priority... nice to have, but not mandatory. What I was hoping someone would have a tip on was an easy way to cut & paste a MS Excel worksheet into a static page........

Hey Garvin or anyone else - any input on: a) my stated confusion regarding the .htaccess bit in the upgrade notes? My situation is a bit precarious at the moment as I am still using MS Frontpage. I have to transfer everything to the shared server via FrontPage - not FTP, so this is a concern. b) mul...

Re: Next generation of my site - questions

1) Looks like I need to upgrade first. Can I just copy the files to my server and that will complete the upgrade? http://www.s9y.org/37.html This is where I get a bit confused regarding updating: --- .htaccess AuthType Basic AuthName "Authorisation: Serendipity Upgrade IN PROGRESS" AuthUs...

Next generation of my site - questions

Hello again everyone! Hope you have all had a great 2006! Perhaps some of you will remember the boating event site I created with s9y last year - many of you were very helpful!!! The site is http://www.chicagoloopcruise.com/ Anyway, that site was first built with MS FrontPage. I then changed the ind...

I have been test driving some of the other CMS offerings out there for the past week. Lots of power there, but also lots of confusion. Let me tell you what I really miss the most - RESPONSE! So many of these apps seem like they are great, but for a non coder like myself, I need help understanding ho...

Garvin - I wish I knew half of what you already forgot! I really need to collect my thoughts, and see what I really need. S9y has my top vote, but what I am considering is far beyond blogging. I wish I could just code the plugins I need, but I simply do not have that talent. I've been a fairly...

If someone suggest Drupal, and it is good, what will it help you if you cant stand the "nodes" mania? What is "nodes" mania? Also if you want site to be stable in 1-2 years time you should get a feel of how supported/updated CMS is. Goes for plugins/extensions too. Xoops have ha...

I'm a education junkie, so I will definitely check out the structure of those themes! Can you elaborate on the "accessibility requirements"? I think I am starting to understand this.. for instance, I recently went through my site and tried to make sure that images had an "alt=" s...

Are you saying that tables have been misused? If so, what is the correct replacement? <div>'s? If this is not the proper place to discuss, I apologize. It's Friday night in Chicago, USA... I really should be doing something other than sitting in front of my computer! LOL!!

Carl - your words are too kind. If you keep talking like that, I might develop more of an ego than I already have! You, and many others, have helped me a great deal, and for that, I am sincerely greatful. If there is anything I can do to return the favor, you can bet I will. I would be ...
