Re: Unsupported strict_types in... ---AND--- Syntax error, unexpected ':' expecting ';' or '{' in ...

Just an update. . . Oh! and a question. copying 2.1.6 over the existing files brought back the blog (one done, uploading the files to the other one now). There were some problems with PHP obsolescence warnings in the "User Self Registration" plugin making a mess of the format, but upgradin...

thh,

Thank you for that. I'll see if I can get my blogs back simply by copying an older version over them. If so, there may be a path yet left to follow. :)

Making Backups

Hi, I used the backups facility to make a backup of the sql tables (full structure) and that seems to be fine. I tried backup to html and was not able to find where those went. They're not in the Backup folder, nor are they in the htmlarea folder. Any ideas? Also, I have two different backup require...

Re: Unsupported strict_types in... ---AND--- Syntax error, unexpected ':' expecting ';' or '{' in ...

Onli, Thank you for your response. Well that sucks on a variety of levels. Not the least of which is that I'm getting old and thought I had checked that. Also, it would seem that every new "version" of PHP is, for all intents and purposes a different programming language. Are there earlier...

Re: Unsupported strict_types in... ---AND--- Syntax error, unexpected ':' expecting ';' or '{' in ...

Oops P.P.S. It looks like something has changed (maybe as the hosting service got the PHP downgraded from 5.6 to 5.4). Here's the new error message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected 'class' (T_CLASS), expecting identifier (T_STRING) or variable (T_VARIABLE) or '{' or '$' in /home/content/17/899...

I'm trying to upgrade to the latest version so that I can upgrade my hosting to a better version (one with AWStats). I followed the instructions and chose to have you automatically deal with the list of issues. This is what I get when I go there. Warning: Unsupported declare 'strict_types' in /home/...

Re: Moving blog to new server

Thanks thh. I'll try that as a last resort. Will I be able to change the root field (serendipityPath) once it has installed (assuming it installs and works)? Also, re: serendipityPath: Is there a facility in phpMyAdmin that would let me simply change the value of an existing field rather than do an ...

Re: Moving blog to new server

Thank you for helping me yellowled. They do offer 7.x up to 7.3. Unfortunately, I've already moved the site, and I'm not sure how to re-establish the old site. I would guess that if I just install the newer version and point it to the old database, that it will not work. I did a "dir *404.tpl*...

Moving blog to new server

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ P.S. Version 1.5.5. (according to serendipity_config_local.inc.php) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi, I let the nice man from godaddy talk me into moving my site to a new "CPanel" server. I told him I really didn't want to. That I really didn't have the time to move sites. He w...
Feature suggestion: Internal commenting
Hi, This is just a feature suggestion. Not something I need, but just something that would be nice to have. In my glossary ( example ) I have a set of message editing tags ([comment] blah blah blah [/comment]) that denote that anything between them is a comment, which is stored in the database, but ...
Re: Thank you for Spamblock (bayes)
Onli, Timbalu, Thanks. I'm still very hazy on the whole thing, but figure this will dissipate with more hands-on experience. I'll take your advice and add the bee. Timbalu, Your ordering conclusions seem well-based in reason, so that is how I will set them. Based on your reasoning, it seems like I ...
Thank you for Spamblock (bayes)
Hello, I recently installed the "Spamblock (Bayes)" plugin and just wanted to report here that it works great. I don't fully understand all of its options yet, but, right out of the box, it is catching most of the previous rivers of spam. I have the old spamblock, which is still installed....
That makes sense Timbalu.
Thanks for the clear explanation.
I'll give it a try (real soon now) and let you know how it went.
Changes to the comment form how to
Hi, I'd like to make changes to the comment form (just let people know which fields are required, for now). A little grepping seems to have led to commentform.tpl But, that's where it gets kinda hairy. I have competition as my template There is no commentform.tpl in templates/competition There are t...
