ur idea finally worked.......I removed the browser compatibility plugin from my serendipity and finally its working well. As u said, it must be due to the interference of the browser compatibility plugin....:)

As the machine which I am working is not my personal system and it doesnt have any other browsers other than IE, its difficult for me to use a different browser.........

Anyway, I tried downloading the latest version of function_entries.inc.php file from the cvs repository of sourceforge ...

Sorry that I cannot try it on a different browser...

and also request to note that my ver is exactly serendipity 0.8 and not greater

and no JS errors are being reported.........
