500 server internal error after installation

I've installed serendipity, specifying my sql parameters etc...
A page has appeared confirming that the installation had been successful
Then I browsed to mywebsite/serendipity/ but a server 500 internal error appeared... what should I do.
This is the error log:
[Thu Nov 04 13:38:53 2004] [alert] [client 80.116.141.85] /web/htdocs/www.cnomania.it/home/serendipity/.htaccess: DirectoryIndex not allowed here

(I am hosted don a remote server).

If you have no control over your webserver configuration, you should just edit your .htaccess file and remove the DirectoryIndex directive. It's not really important, but solves some issues on other servers to not display a directory listing...
