Time offset

Post by emantel.nl »

As I newbie, I must say this is a great product! Easy, looks nice etc. etc.. Tons of extra stuff. I tried other blog software, but this one is it. I'll keep it around for a while.

Still there is one thing missing in the current version Serendipity v.0.7-beta3. I'm in a different time zone than the settings on the server of my site host. Is it possible to change the time display settings? Probably, but how?

Maybe this is something you could add to the setup//configuration pages? (Greymatter does that) It's not as easy as it may look: Changing the time while adding a log makes that the message is not displayed until 7 hours later! (that's the time difference: I'm in MET time zone, the server 7 hours earlier (is that central usa time? )

Greetings,

I'm quite sorry, we don't have a timezone offset setting right now. Sadly it is not possible to set an environment variable or whatever to pass to the server so that it reports a different time; we need to adjust every single call time time(), date(), strftime(), gmdate() and strtotime().

Actually, that's quite a lot of work which we haven't gotten down to do yet. All of our developers have their servers in their timezone, so it wasn't a pressing issue for us; maybe if you are able to and would like to help in that issue, we would appreciate it?

Basically it's just adding/substracting the configured offset to every timestamp that is returned anywhere...

Best regards,
Garvin.

This has been on my brain-based TODO list for a while now--my server is +3 hours, and it's annoying. I promise to take care of this for 0.8.

Just added it to my blog-based TODO list so I'll remember.

Just to let you know: I have just finished implementing Timezone support into the current 0.8 CVS development version! You can now specify an offset to add/subtract from all date-relevant input.
