Questions about Serendipity

Post by pavel »

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a weblog for my website and I'm trying several weblog engines.

I've installed a "test" version of Serendipity on my site (http://www.sympato.ch/jrprod/blog3) but I've got some questions.

1) Will the new versions of Serendipity be compatible with the old ones ? It means, is there a way to keep its old weblogs and its old skin and upgrade the soft ?

2) I would like to add some links to the right or the left menu. But in the administrators menu there isn't any option to do so. How should I procede ?

Thanks for your answers !

2) you can use the html nugget plugin. There you can insert html code and display all the content that you want :)

Thank you very much for having answered my second questions. I've put the links and understood how the plugin works.

But I've still the newer versions compatibility question.

Thank you for your answers,
Pavel

Hi!

Yes! This is our motto since the beginning of Serendipity. Upgrading is painless and often performed by all the developers running s9y blogs. So because of us having "old" installations, we will always want to make s9y to be upgradable, and not to annoy our users of course.
However we are currently in the process of introducing Smarty templating, which will affect the skins; but if you already made a custom CSS, this will be usable by the default template from s9y. Only if you change the Smarty-Template by yourself, you will need to pay attention to future upgrade, if new Template-Blocks get introduced and so forth.

Of course, if you stick to the default Smarty template with your own CSS, nothing can go wrong; I promise. :-)

Best regards,
Garvin.
