Slashes and other mystery characters

I've been noticing after the wordpress import that I've been seeing slashes (/) where they're not supposed to be. Usually after quotes and apostrophes. This was a problem when I upgraded to Wordpress 1.2 but I thought I had corrected it. I also have been see other characters that shouldn't be there. Is this strictly a Wordpress issue or is there something that can be done, possibly through MYSQL, to correct this?

Do you see forward or backward slashes? If they're backward slashes, they might come from a "magic quotes" directive somewhere?
