CVS snapshot of smarty branch won't work

Post by stephan:guest »

Hi,

I downloaded all available snapshots of the smarty-branch and tried to get them up and running, but had no success. I extracted the archives, uploaded straight to my webhost and tried to access the serendipity folder (and serendipity_admin.php), but nothing happend. There was also no source code for the site. I could see the NEWS file, but no PHP. Period.
I have other php files running on my site and therefore I guess it has nothing to do with my host config, but with the serendipity files. Unfortunately I cannot figure out, what#s wrong with them.

Does anybody else have similar problems? Is there anything to be done to the CVS snapshot files before they will work?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi!

since the smarty-branch is still experimental, there may be some problem with including a file.

Please make sure you extracted the snapshot with all subdirectories, and that the 'templates_c' folder is world-writeable (chmod 0777).

If you have control over it, enable the PHP error-reporting or look at your logfiles, because I think there's a PHP error generated which can't be seen because your host may be set to 'display_errors 0'...

On my testsystem I did get it up and running by making the templates.c folder world-writable and gracefully restarting the Apache. Hm, now I am very confused as to whether my host has a misconfigured httpd running (but the "regular" serendipity works out of the box).
I have no chance of getting my hands on error reports from my host, so I'll have to wait until either smarty gets out of it's diaper phase or the wordpress conversion is added to 0.7 ;-)

Thanks so far!
