Empty Database Required?

Post by pvollmar »

One of the requirements for installation is an "empty" database. My provider gives us only one database for our virtual host, and I've used it successfully for any number of concurrent product installations with no problems. Why must your product use an empty database? If I try to install it, will it wipe out all my current tables?

No, it does not, if you take a unique prefix, eg 's9y_tablename' which you can choose on install (even without, they would be quite unique starting with a '_'). Having lots of other tables in the same database may slow down a system, if there is quite a lot to do. That is why it is recommended to use an empty one. In short, no wipe out before install. Though having or making a backup of the database before installing another system is always a good idea!
