Ja, das ist bei mir standardmäßig so eingestellt. Normalerweise werden mir die Fehler auch angezeigt, aber nicht, wenn ich Smarty-Befehle in der config.inc.php erstelle. Smarty scheint bei Fehlern während des kompilierens einfach abzubrechen. Gab es da nicht etwas bei den Smarty-Settings?

Ich glaube, es schon irgendwo mal gelesen zu haben, aber ich finde es nicht mehr: Wenn man Smarty-Erweiterungen in die config.inc.php einbaut und einen Fehler macht, bricht Serendipity die Seitenausgabe komplett ab und zeigt einen weißen Bildschirm.
